Recap: Muskogee Roughers vs. Broken Arrow Tigers
The Muskogee Roughers suffered their biggest defeat since December 5, 2023 on Friday. They were dealt a 73-44 loss at the hands of Broken Arrow. While losing is never fun, Muskogee can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Oklahoma basketball rankings (they are ranked 284th, while Broken Arrow is ranked 34th).
When it comes to explaining why Muskogee lost, one person who can't be blamed is Malaysia Burton. Despite the final result, she scored 20 points along with five assists and five rebounds. That was a full 45.5% of Muskogee's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Nyasia Ivy was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with three steals.
Broken Arrow's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Rekiah Bowen, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds and two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of McKenzie Mathurin, who scored 17 points along with nine rebounds and three blocks.
Muskogee dropped their record down to 4-11 with that loss, which was their sixth straight on the road. As for Broken Arrow, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 12 games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season.
Muskogee will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Jenks at 6:30 p.m. As for Broken Arrow, they won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Bixby at 2:00 p.m. on January 27th. Bixby is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
