Baseball Game Preview: Poston Butte Broncos vs. Sahuaro Cougars

The Poston Butte Broncos will take on the Sahuaro Cougars at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The last three games Poston Butte has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

On Monday, Poston Butte didn't have quite enough to beat Apache Junction and fell 8-7. That's two games in a row now that the Broncos have lost by just one run.

Wyatt Albertson was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. Albertson was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI.

In other batting news, Isael Aguilera was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4.

Even though they lost, Poston Butte always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2024.

Meanwhile, Sahuaro fell victim to Pueblo and their airtight pitching crew on Monday. They came up short against the Warriors, falling 13-0.

Sahuaro saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cody Taitano, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one double. That double marked the first that Taitano hit this season.

Poston Butte's record now sits at 3-6. As for Sahuaro, their record is now 1-8-1.

Poston Butte skirted past Sahuaro 7-6 in their previous matchup back in April of 2018. The rematch might be a little tougher for Poston Butte since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
