Baseball Recap: Wapakoneta Extends Road Winning Streak to Ten

Wapakoneta never let their opponents score on Friday. They put the hurt on the Kenton Wildcats with a sharp 13-0 win. The Redskins might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine games by six runs or more this season.

Drew Bailey was a major factor no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over five innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Griffin Mericle, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Grant Jolly, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and three runs.

Wapakoneta pushed their record up to 12-1 with the victory, which was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.7 runs over those games. As for Kenton, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-10.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Wapakoneta will take on rival Elida at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Redskins 1.4, the Bulldogs 3.8) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Kenton is set to challenge their familiar foe Bath at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
