Basketball Recap: Winthrop College Prep Academy Takes a Loss

Winthrop College Prep Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their 11th straight defeat. They had to suffer through a 67-34 loss at the hands of the Mitchell Mustangs. The Spartans were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 39-19.

Despite the loss, Winthrop College Prep Academy still got an impressive performance from JoLesa Birkhead, who posted 18 points in addition to seven boards and three steals. That was a full 52.9% of Winthrop College Prep Academy's points, marking the 15th time in a row she's had more than a third of the team's points.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Mitchell to victory, but perhaps none more so than Brianna Coure, who almost dropped a double-double on 14 points and nine steals. The dominant performance also gave Coure a new career-high in assists (eight). Another player making a difference was Kaylana Little, who almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine steals.

Winthrop College Prep Academy's loss dropped their record down to 3-13. As for Mitchell, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 12-4.

Winthrop College Prep Academy will square off against Berkeley Prep at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Mitchell, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 70-25 victory against East Lake on the 9th.
