Softball Game Preview: McCall-Donnelly Vandals vs. Cole Valley Christian Chargers

For the second straight game, McCall-Donnelly will face off against Cole Valley Christian. The Vandals will welcome the Chargers at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. McCall-Donnelly has given up an average of 17.2 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

McCall-Donnelly is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 12 runs on Saturday, they were much more limited against Cole Valley Christian on Tuesday. They lost 20-2 to the Chargers.

For Cole Valley Christian's part, Karlie Barnum made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Barnum has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off two home runs and five RBI while going 3-for-3. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Cole Valley Christian got a massive performance out of Lola Crosby, who scored two runs and stole five bases while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. That's the most stolen bases Crosby has posted since back in April of 2024. Lauren Colson was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Cole Valley Christian always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .657. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive matchups.

Cole Valley Christian pushed their record up to 12-3 with the victory, which was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for McCall-Donnelly, their loss dropped their record down to 1-11.
