Baseball Recap: Kennedy Falls to Overland in First Game of Season

Kennedy unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They fell just short of the Overland Trailblazers by a score of 12-11 on Wednesday. Sadly, the defeat continues a streak the team started last season, making it eight in a row.

Kalani Market led a balanced group of hitters, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Xavier Benavidez, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Even though they lost, Kennedy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .684. Their OBP was a full 0 higher than the also-impressive .537 that Overland posted.

Overland's win ended a 15-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-2.

Kennedy wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next match, an 8-4 victory against Thornton on the 14th. As for Overland, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 21-3 loss against Mountain Range on the 17th.
