Basketball Recap: Northland Prep Academy Comes Up Short

Northland Prep Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. The game between them and the Kingman Academy Tigers didn't end well, with the Northland Prep Academy Spartans falling 43-27. While losing is never fun, the Spartans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 267th, while the Tigers are ranked 132nd).

Despite the loss, Northland Prep Academy saw an underclassman step up: freshman Ellysia Martinez almost dropped a double-double on 14 points and nine rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Martinez has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Bethany Blair, who posted five points and three steals.

Even though they lost, Northland Prep Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in five consecutive matches.

Northland Prep Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 1-13. As for Kingman Academy, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-6.

Northland Prep Academy wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 42-21 loss against Round Valley on the 25th. As for Kingman Academy, a feisty cat fight is on tap when the Kingman Academy Tigers challenge the Chino Valley Cougars at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
