Baseball Recap: Stayton Comes Up Short

Stayton dropped their record down to 7-11 on Monday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They lost 9-1 to the Cascade Cougars. Having soared to a lofty ten runs in the game before, the Eagles couldn't push the score so high this time.

As for Cascade, with the win, they broke their four-game losing streak and moved their record to 7-10. That looming 9-1 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for them yet this season.

For Cascade's part, Slade Hudson was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Hudson is becoming a predictor of Cascade's success: when he allows at most three earned runs the team is 4-2 (and 3-8 when he doesn't). Hudson was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Carter Condon was excellent, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Noah Zehr, who went 1-for-3 with two runs.

While Stayton had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
