DeSoto, No. 1 in MaxPreps Texas Top 25, is scoring at a 55.3 per game clip, best in the Dallas area for Class 5A teams.

No. 8 Coppell leads Dallas' 5A area in fewest average points allowed, 13.6.

The two will collide in a Division I Region I area playoff at 2 p.m. Saturday in the second of a quadruple-header at Arlington's AT&T Stadium.

DeSoto quarterback Desmon White has thrown for 3,280 yards and 33 touchdowns. Oklahoma State pledge Chris Lacy has 55 receptions for 1,080 yards and 16 touchdowns.

But it is not only the pass that must concern DeSoto opponents. The Eagles (11-0) compliment their 303-yard passing average with a 285-yard rushing yards per game.

Coppell, which hasn't allowed any points in the second half of six straight games, is holding opponents to an average of 110 rushing and 142 passing yards per game. Solomon Thomas, a 6-3, 263-pound senior defensive end, is a big reason why. Thomas is the target of a nationwide recruiting battle.

The only blemish on Coppell's 9-1 record is a 31-10 road loss to No. 2 Allen.

DeSoto defeated Coppell, 42-14, in the same playoff round a year ago. But the Cowboys were missing several injured offensive linemen that day.

In some other intriguing area-round matchups of Top 25 teams this weekend:

*No. 9 Steele (Cibolo) takes on No. 16 Reagan (San Antonio) in Class 5A Division II on Friday night at San Antonio's Comalander Stadium.

*No. 11 Skyline (Dallas) faces No. 18 Sachse in Class 5A Division I playoff set for 4:30 p.m. Saturday at Dallas' historic Cotton Bowl.
