The Bloomington Bruins will challenge the Rialto Knights at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Bloomington hasn't scored more than a single run for three games straight, a trend the squad is eager to reverse.
Saturday just wasn't the day for Bloomington's offense. They fell 3-0 to Notre Dame on Saturday.
Bloomington saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ricardo Sanchez, who went 1-for-2 with one double.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Rialto). They skirted past Riverside Prep 14-13. With that win, the Knights brought their scoring average up to 6.6 runs per game.
David Rodriguez made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 1-for-4. Those two runs gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Hugo Sanchez and Aydin Ayala did most of the damage at the plate: Sanchez scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-4, while Ayala scored a run while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was George Morales, who scored three runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Rialto always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .628. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Rialto pushed their record up to 7-3 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. As for Bloomington, they now have a losing record of 7-8.
Bloomington might still be hurting after the 12-2 loss they got from Rialto in their previous matchup two weeks ago. Will the Bruins have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other baseball content.
