Softball Game Preview: Utica Chieftains vs. Utica Eisenhower Eagles

The Utica Chieftains will challenge the Utica Eisenhower Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Utica will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.

Utica is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Everything went their way against Fraser on Tuesday as they made off with a 15-6 victory.

Violet Smith spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up seven Ks.

At the plate, Rachel Durecki was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with five RBI, one run, and one double. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ava Mazza, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Utica kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Fraser only managed eight hits.

Meanwhile, Utica Eisenhower sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 win over Chippewa Valley on Monday.

Utica's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-12. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Utica Eisenhower, their victory bumped their record up to 5-7.
