Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Rensselaer Central walked away with it. They walked away with a 57-49 victory over the Alexandria-Monroe Tigers on Saturday. The win was nothing new for the Bombers as they're now sitting on seven straight.
Rensselaer Central got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Taylor Van Meter out in front who went 7-for-14 en route to 18 points along with six assists and five boards. Van Meter is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last ten games she's played. Kamri Rowland was another key player, going 6-for-14 on her way to 15 points in addition to eight rebounds and three steals.
Van Meter wasn't the only one working in the assist department: Rensselaer Central was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Alexandria-Monroe only racked up nine assists.
When it comes to explaining why Alexandria-Monroe lost, don't look at Jacklynn Hosier. Despite the final result, she shot 5-for-8 from long range and almost dropped a double-double with 19 points and nine boards. Stella Griffin also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.
Rensselaer Central's win bumped their record up to 24-2. As for Alexandria-Monroe, their loss dropped their record down to 25-2.
Looking ahead, Rensselaer Central will take on Sheridan at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Sheridan will roll in looking for their 23rd straight victory, something Rensselaer Central surely won't give up without a fight. Alexandria-Monroe does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
