Basketball Preview: Spring Creek Spartans vs. Elko Indians

Spring Creek has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They and the Elko Indians will face off at 7:30 p.m. on February 7th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Spring Creek knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past five matches -- so hopefully the Indians like a good challenge.

Spring Creek pushed their score all the way to 61 on Saturday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 73-61 hit to the loss column at the hands of Fernley. Spring Creek has struggled against the Vaqueros recently, as their game on Saturday was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.

Spring Creek might have lost, but man, Darren Bylund was a machine: he dropped a double-double on 21 points and 13 rebounds. Jaron Johnson was another key contributor, scoring 14 points.

Meanwhile, Elko strolled past the Dust Devils with points to spare on Saturday, taking the game 60-45.

Spring Creek's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 17-6. As for Elko, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 15-8 record this season.

Spring Creek and the Indians were neck-and-neck in their previous matchup back in January, but the Spartans came up empty-handed after a 48-47 defeat. Can Spring Creek avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
