Eagan and Apple Valley are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2021, but likely not for long. The Wildcats will be playing in front of their home fans against the Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
The home team had won the previous five meetings between Eagan and Prior Lake, and Prior Lake kept the tradition alive. The Wildcats fell 12-7 to the Lakers on Monday.
Meanwhile, Apple Valley had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Monday. They blew past the Lightning 12-1. That 11-run margin sets a new team best for the Eagles this season.
Paxton Ames spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on six hits and racked up nine Ks. He has become a key player for Apple Valley: the team is undefeated when he allows at most three earned runs, but 4-10 otherwise.
On the hitting side, Apple Valley got a massive performance out of Cam Noland, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one double. The Eagles are undefeated when Noland posts two or more runs, but 4-10 otherwise. Avery Mick was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Apple Valley kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive games.
Apple Valley's victory bumped their record up to 8-10. As for Eagan, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-9 record this season.
Eagan beat Apple Valley 3-0 in their previous matchup back in April. Will the Wildcats repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
