Softball Recap: Duluth East Triumphs

Duluth East not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since May 10, 2025 (when they won 8-0). They put the hurt on the Grand Rapids Thunderhawks with a sharp 12-4 victory. For the Greyhounds, this counts as revenge for the 5-4 win the Thunderhawks walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2025.

Jossie Filiatrault spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on ten hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Duluth East got a massive performance out of Lauren Pozniak, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Sasha Cole, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.

Duluth East was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Duluth East's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-5. As for Grand Rapids, they dropped their record down to 4-5 with the defeat, which was their third straight on the road.

Looking ahead, Duluth East will head out to face off against Mahtomedi at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Grand Rapids, they will be playing at home against Hibbing at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
