Recap: Jefferson Davis County Jaguars vs. Columbia Wildcats

The Jefferson Davis County Jaguars scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Thursday. The stars were shining brightly for them in a 80-62 victory over Columbia. Given Jefferson Davis County's advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 34th, while Columbia is ranked 87th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

When it comes to explaining why Columbia lost, one person who can't be blamed is Payshunce Sims. Despite the final result, she scored 20 points. Sims continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Indea Pounds, who scored 12 points.

The win was the sixth in a row for Jefferson Davis County, bringing their record for this year to 9-1. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.2 points per game. As for Columbia, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-4.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Jefferson Davis County will square off against West Marion on Friday. West Marion is coming into the match on a five-game losing streak. As for Columbia, they will head out on the road to face off against East Marion at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully East Marion focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 24 on Thursday.
