Softball Recap: Rice Lake Takes a Loss

Rice Lake extended their losing streak to four on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 7-10 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 7-6 heartbreaker at the hands of the Superior Spartans. The defeat was just more heartbreak for the Warriors who fell 4-2 when the teams previously met back in May of 2018.

As for Superior, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 8-4. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games.

For Superior's part, Arianna Robillard was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over seven innings pitched. Robillard has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Melania Luostari, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April.

Looking ahead, Rice Lake will take on Mosinee at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Superior, they will square off against Chippewa Falls at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
