Baseball Game Preview: Highland Bulldogs vs. Waterloo Bulldogs

Highland will square off against Waterloo at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Highland is coming into the match hot, having won their last three games.

While Highland's victory against Alton wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Bulldogs narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Redbirds 7-5.

Nolan Houchins looked comfortable as he tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.

On the hitting side, Blake Gelly was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases and two RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Garrin Stone, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one run.

Waterloo never got on the board in their matchup on Wednesday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Collinsville on Friday. They walked away with a 12-8 victory over the Kahoks. The win continues a trend for the Bulldogs in their matchups with the Kahoks: they've now won eight in a row.

Highland's victory bumped their record up to 9-6. As for Waterloo, their win bumped their record up to 11-6.

Highland was able to grind out a solid victory over Waterloo when the teams last played back in May of 2024, winning 3-0. Does Highland have another victory up their sleeve, or will Waterloo turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
