Preview: Hershey Panthers vs. Doniphan-Trumbull Cardinals
Hershey has been on the road for two straight, but on Friday they'll finally head home. They will finish 2023 at home by hosting the Doniphan-Trumbull Cardinals at 5:00 p.m. Hopefully Hershey focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 31 on Tuesday.
Last Tuesday, Hershey might have been a little too into the holiday spirit, gifting Broken Bow an easy 63-39 win. While losing is never fun, Hershey can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 108th, while Broken Bow is ranked 20th).
Hershey's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Aubry Hall, who scored 11 points along with nine rebounds and three steals, and Kenna Bringewatt who scored ten points along with five rebounds. That's the first time this season that Hall pulled down eight or more rebounds.
Meanwhile, Doniphan-Trumbull scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They walked away with a 57-50 victory over Sandy Creek.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Doniphan-Trumbull to victory, but perhaps none more so than Emily Shimmin, who scored 15 points. That's the first time this season that Shimmin scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Logan Rainforth, who scored 13 points.
Hershey's loss dropped their record down to 4-3. As for Doniphan-Trumbull, the win got them back to even at 3-3.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Hershey have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 33.9 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Doniphan-Trumbull, though, as they've been averaging only 19.2 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
