Recap: Yazoo City Indians vs. Holmes County Central Jaguars
This season hasn't been kind to The Yazoo City Indians, who are still winless after their eighth matchup. They had to suffer through a rough 42-14 loss at the hands of Holmes County Central. While losing is never fun, Yazoo City can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi football rankings (they are ranked 226th, while Holmes County Central is ranked 25th).
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Holmes County Central to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jartavious Smart, who rushed for 223 yards and two touchdowns on only 14 carries. The team also got some help courtesy of Garrison Davis, who threw for 242 yards and four touchdowns.
Holmes County Central's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB three times. Leading the way was Terrance Hibler and his two sacks.
Yazoo City's loss was their tenth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 0-8. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 12-1 Jackson Prep and 8-4 Humphreys County (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 59.5% over those games). As for Holmes County Central, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 9-0.
Yazoo City will head out on the road to face off against Greenville at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Greenville is coming into the game on a five-game losing streak. As for Holmes County Central, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Cleveland Central at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
