Baseball Game Preview: Gilbert Indians vs. Airport Eagles

For the second straight game, Gilbert will face off against Airport. The Indians will welcome the Eagles at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Gilbert 2.1, Airport 2.9) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Gilbert is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of South Carolina's top teams: Airport, who was ranked 13th at the time (Gilbert was ranked tenth). The Indians came up short against the Eagles on Friday, falling 11-1. The Indians haven't had much luck with the Eagles recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

For Airport's part, Hunter Epps made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing six innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. What's more, Epps posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run and two runs. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season.

In other batting news, Airport got a big performance out of Justin Sightler, who went 1-for-3 with four RBI and one double. That's the most RBI Sightler has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Landon Jeffcoat, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.

The victory (which was Airport's fifth in a row) raised their record to 23-6. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Gilbert, their loss dropped their record down to 26-6.
