Preview: Lejeune Devil Pups vs. Jones Trojans
Lejeune is on a seven-game streak of home losses, Jones a six-game streak of away losses, but someone's luck is about to change. Having just played yesterday, the Lejeune Devil Pups will get right back to it and host the Jones Trojans at 5:00 p.m. on January 26th. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around on Friday.
Lejeune suffered their biggest defeat since December 6, 2023 on Thursday. They suffered a rough 63-38 defeat at the hands of Southside. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Lejeune in their matchups with Southside: they've now lost five in a row.
Loss or not, Lejeune got some senior leadership from Shyanne Bryant and Abigail Gonzales. Bryant scored 11 points along with nine steals and three blocks, while Gonzales. scored 14 points along with five steals and two blocks. That was a full 36.8% of Lejeune's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Iyanna Speight, who scored seven points along with two blocks.
Meanwhile, Jones was the victim of a tough 62-39 loss at the hands of Eastern Christian HomeSchool on Thursday. While losing is never fun, Jones can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 519th, while Eastern Christian HomeSchool is ranked 176th).
Lejeune's defeat dropped their record down to 1-11. As for Jones, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-13.
