Softball Game Preview: Proviso West Panthers vs. Glenbard West Hilltoppers

Proviso West hasn't had much luck against Glenbard West recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Panthers will host the Hilltoppers at 4:30 p.m.

After dropping their season opener at home, Glenbard West is headed out to face a Panthers squad ready to give their home crowd a win. Proviso West lost 21-0 to Willowbrook on Tuesday. Sadly, the defeat continues a streak the team started last season, making it 14 in a row.

Meanwhile, Glenbard West entered their tilt with York on Monday with seven consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with eight. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 4-3 W against the Dukes. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Hilltoppers have posted against the Dukes since April 22, 2019.

Olivia Salerno spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on two hits and racked up 13 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Ainslie Bobroff, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Alexa Trybus, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

Proviso West suffered a grim 17-0 defeat to Glenbard West in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Panthers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
