Football Recap: Greenville Takes a Loss

Greenville had lost three straight on the road, but on Friday they dropped down to 3-3 to make it four. They took a blow against the Columbus Blue Devils, falling 42-8. The Patriots gained 191 more yards on the day, but it was the Blue Devils that made the best use of them.

Despite the loss, Greenville still got an impressive performance from Marquel Deering, who rushed for 257 yards and one TD while picking up 13.5 yards per carry. The Patriots also got a significant boost from Zayden Kelley, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 85 yards.

As for Columbus, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 8 points in those games.

Columbus got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Rayshaun Glover out in front who rushed for 83 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only five carries. Those 83 rushing yards gave Glover a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Grant Geringer, who rushed for 79 yards and two scores on only eight carries.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Greenville will take on Mount Vernon at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Columbus, they will face off against Hardaway at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Blue Devils will be up against the Hawks' rather soft defense (which has allowed 29.67 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
