Softball Recap: Wethersfield Takes a Loss

Wethersfield had lost three straight at home, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 1-4 to make it four. They came up short against the Edwin O. Smith Panthers, falling 15-1. Having soared to a lofty 17 runs in the game before, the Eagles couldn't push the score so high this time.

As for Edwin O. Smith, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games.

For Edwin O. Smith's part, Olivia Lipps was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and not a single walk). Lipps has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with five RBI, one run, and one double. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Edwin O. Smith let Louise Champage and Rachael Morales run wild. Champage went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, three RBI, and one stolen base, while Morales went a perfect 5-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those five hits gave Morales a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Bella Kaldy, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one RBI.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Wethersfield will venture away from home to face off against Windsor at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Eagles are facing the Warriors at the right time seeing as the Warriors are stuck on an eight-game losing streak. As for Edwin O. Smith, they will challenge Conard at 3:45 p.m. on Friday.
