Volleyball Recap: Appleton East Takes a Loss

Appleton East was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Kaukauna Galloping Ghosts. The Patriots were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Galloping Ghosts earlier this season, when they won 2-1.

The match finished with set scores of 25-14, 25-21, 22-25, 25-22.

Despite the loss, Appleton East saw an underclassman step up: freshman Addison Kiekhaefer had four digs and two aces. Kiekhaefer also set a new season-high mark in assists with 20. Adina DePagter also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assist of the season.

Kaukauna found their leader in sophomore Kala Lahm, who had 21 assists and four digs.

Appleton East's defeat dropped their record down to 5-7. As for Kaukauna, their win bumped their record up to 3-4.

Appleton East and Kaukauna could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Wisconsin Rankings. The Patriots will face off against Kimberly at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday with a big rank disadvantage (217 vs. 33). Meanwhile, Kaukauna (ranked 242nd) will meet Xavier (ranked 14th) at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
