Softball Game Preview: Wagner Thunderbirds vs. Smithson Valley Rangers

Wagner is 0-10 against Smithson Valley since April of 2018 but things could change on Friday. The Thunderbirds will head out on the road to challenge the Rangers at 7:00 p.m. Wagner has given up an average of 13.6 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Wagner is headed into Friday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 12th straight game on Tuesday. They came up short against Veterans Memorial, falling 26-0.

Meanwhile, Smithson Valley came tearing into Tuesday's match with 12 straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 13.4 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Unicorns a 10-0 shutout. The Rangers' pitching crew has been rock solid lately; the team hasn't given up a run in their last four games.

Smithson Valley pushed their record up to 15-1 with the victory, which was their eighth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Wagner, their loss dropped their record down to 4-17.

Wagner suffered a grim 24-0 defeat to Smithson Valley in their previous meeting back in March. Can the Thunderbirds avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
