Baseball Game Preview: South Garner Titans vs. Willow Spring Storm

The South Garner Titans will head out to challenge the Willow Spring Storm at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. South Garner has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the matchup with ten straight defeats, while Willow Spring will come in with six straight wins.

South Garner fell victim to Clayton and their airtight pitching crew on Friday. They lost 11-0 to the Comets.

Meanwhile, Willow Spring got the win against Southeast Raleigh on Friday by a conclusive 16-5.

Willow Spring let Nate Rice and Rylan Sherrell run wild. Rice scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances, while Sherrell scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Sherrell also put up an RBI, which was his first of the season. Jace Cargile was another key player, scoring a run while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.

Willow Spring's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-3. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to hits: they averaged an imposing ten hits in those games compared to only 4.8 in the others. As for South Garner, their loss dropped their record down to 0-8.

South Garner came out on top in a nail-biter against Willow Spring in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, sneaking past 4-2. Does South Garner have another victory up their sleeve, or will Willow Spring turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
