Basketball Recap: Bellevue West's Win on Friday Extends Winning Streak to Five

Bellevue West came tearing into Friday's contest with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 15.8 points), and they left with even more momentum. Everything went their way against the Bellevue East Chieftains as they made off with a 76-56 win. Given the Thunderbirds' advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 15th, while the Chieftains are ranked 126th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Bellevue West's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jacob Coyer led the charge by going 6-for-8 on his way to 14 points and seven boards. Coyer continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Kadan Mitchell also deserves some recognition as he scored his first points of the season.

Bellevue West was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bellevue East only posted six assists.

When it comes to explaining why Bellevue East lost, don't look at Kris Brown. Despite the final result, he went 11-for-22 en route to 28 points. The dominant performance gave Brown a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Isaac Gore, who posted seven points.

Bellevue West pushed their record up to 14-7 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. As for Bellevue East, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-14.

Coincidentally, Bellevue West and Bellevue East will both be playing Fremont the next time they take the court. Bellevue East will head out to face Fremont at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday, while Bellevue West will host them at 7:15 p.m. on February 21st.
