Softball Game Preview: Canyon View Jaguars vs. Paradise Valley Trojans

The Canyon View Jaguars will head out on the road to square off against the Paradise Valley Trojans at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Canyon View has 12 straight wins, Paradise Valley has five straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

It was a proper cat-fight when Canyon View faced off against Liberty on Wednesday. Canyon View blew past Liberty 12-1. The Jaguars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten matches by six runs or more this season.

Rylen Buchberger and Makenzie Jones did most of the damage at the plate: Buchberger scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3, while Jones scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2. Buchberger has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Gracie Harkins, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

They weren't the only ones working in the hit department: Canyon View kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in 11 consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Monday just wasn't the day for Paradise Valley's offense. They lost 26-0 to Canyon View on Monday.

Canyon View pushed their record up to 12-0 with the victory, which was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 10.8 runs. As for Paradise Valley, their loss dropped their record down to 0-5.

Paradise Valley's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Thursday. Canyon View has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.8 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Paradise Valley, though, as they've been averaging only 2.2 strikeouts. Will Canyon View keep running through batters, or will Paradise Valley buck the trend?

Everything went Canyon View's way against Paradise Valley in their previous meeting on Monday, as Canyon View made off with a 26-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Canyon View since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
