Basketball Game Preview: Cumberland Academy Knights vs. Pine Tree Pirates

The Cumberland Academy Knights will venture away from home to square off against the Pine Tree Pirates at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Cumberland Academy has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last six games.

On Saturday, Cumberland Academy came up short against Gilmer and fell 81-69. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Tuesday (67), the Knights still had to take the loss.

Meanwhile, Pine Tree slipped by Carthage 44-43 on Friday. Given the Pirates' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 544th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 1413th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Cumberland Academy has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-14 record this season. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.8 points per game. As for Pine Tree, their record now sits at 12-10.

Cumberland Academy took a serious blow against Pine Tree when the teams last played back in December of 2022, falling 63-27. Can Cumberland Academy avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
