Softball Recap: Pine River Area Picks Up 13th Consecutive Victory

Pine River Area waltzed into their game on Thursday with 12 straight wins... but they left with 13. They blew past the Lake City Trojans 10-0. The result was nothing new for the Bucks, who have now won 16 matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.

Kylee Mumby was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Addison Verdi was incredible, going 2-for-3 with four RBI and two doubles. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Lilly Felsk, who got on base in two of her three plate appearances with three stolen bases and three runs.

Pine River Area's win was their tenth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 22-2. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average over those games. As for Lake City, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last eight contests. That's still a better percentage than their 5-18 record this season.

Pine River Area will take on Meridian at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday. The Bucks are facing the Mustangs at the right time seeing as the Mustangs are stuck on a four-game losing streak. Lake City will be paying especially close attention to Pine River Area's game: after Pine River Area faces off against Meridian, they'll take on Lake City again at 6:15 p.m. on Thursday.
