Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Crossroads Christian). They were the clear victors by a 23-2 margin over the Vance County Vipers on Thursday. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 15-7 back in February.
Danny Wieninger was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (four). He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one double. That double marked the first that he has hit this season.
In other pitching news, Wesley Anderson looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. He has become a key player for Crossroads Christian: the team is undefeated when he allows at most three earned runs, but 2-3 otherwise.
Back at the plate, Crossroads Christian got a massive performance out of Cody Paschall, who went 3-for-4 with six RBI, two stolen bases, and two runs. Paschall has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played. Another player making a difference was Bobby Bobbitt, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI.
Crossroads Christian always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .738. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Crossroads Christian has been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.9 runs over those games. As for Vance County, they are on a 34-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-16.
Crossroads Christian wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 14-1 defeat against Falls Lake on the 19th. As for Vance County, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 7-0 loss against Kerr-Vance Academy on the 19th.
