Basketball Recap: Dylan Shapiro's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Barron Collier over Pine Crest

It was a proper cat-fight when Barron Collier challenged Pine Crest on Friday. The Barron Collier Cougars fell 55-42 to the Pine Crest Panthers. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 240th, while the Panthers are ranked 85th).

Barron Collier's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Dylan Shapiro, who posted four points along with eight boards and six assists. Peyton Heffelfinger was another key player, putting up 12 points and five rebounds.

Isabella Sangha continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Pine Crest, dropping a double-double on 33 points and 12 boards. That makes it four consecutive games in which Sangha has scored at least a third of Pine Crest's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Franky Garfi, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 12 rebounds.

With the defeat, Barron Collier broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 13-9. As for Pine Crest, their win bumped their record up to 13-4.

Barron Collier will head out to face off against Bishop Verot at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Bishop Verot is on a six-game streak of home wins, Barron Collier a four-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court. Pine Crest has already played their next contest, a 60-53 victory against Palmetto Ridge on the 25th.
