Basketball Recap: Rangely Takes a Loss

After flying high against Soroco last Saturday, Rangely came back down to earth. The Rangely Panthers were just a bucket shy of victory on Tuesday and fell 62-61 to the Meeker Cowboys. The Panthers haven't had much luck with the Cowboys recently, as the team's come up short the last five times they've met.

Rangely lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Marcos Quintana, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 11 boards. Quintana is trending in the right direction considering he's improved his point production for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Landon Bollinger, who almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine rebounds.

Even though they lost, Rangely smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in six consecutive matches.

Meeker's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Alex Garcia, who went 5 for 8 en route to 16 points and eight boards. Those 16 points gave Garcia a new career-high. Drew Drake was another key player, dropping a double-double on 13 points and 11 rebounds.

Rangely's defeat dropped their record down to 5-7. As for Meeker, they moved to 1-8 with that win, which also ended their nine-game losing streak.

Rangely has already played their next game, a 50-42 loss against Caprock Academy on the 16th. As for Meeker, they are taking a road trip to square off against Olathe at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Olathe's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last four contests.
