Softball Recap: Rustburg Comes Up Short + How To Watch

Rustburg fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Appomattox County on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Raiders by a score of 3-1. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Raiders this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 1-0 on April 9th.

Laila Bigham spent all nine innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on four hits and racked up 20 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in 11 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Rustburg saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Skylar Tyree, who went 2-for-4 with one RBI.

Rustburg has also been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-4 record this season. As for Appomattox County, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 12-2.

Coming up, Rustburg is taking a road trip to square off against Brookville at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Appomattox County, they will be playing at home against Dan River at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Raiders' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Wildcats have averaged an impressive 8.5 runs per game this season.
