Recap: Amelia Academy Patriots vs. Southampton Academy Raiders
The Amelia Academy Patriots's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their ninth straight loss. They were dealt a 50-20 defeat at the hands of Southampton Academy. Amelia Academy has not had much luck with Southampton Academy recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
Amelia Academy's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Levi Borum, who scored six points along with 12 rebounds, and Kyle Anderson who scored ten points along with three steals and two blocks. That was a full 50% of Amelia Academy's points, marking the fifth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Amelia Academy struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They are winless (0-4) when they just don't pass the ball.
Southampton Academy found their leader in underclassman G Applewhite, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and ten rebounds. Applewhite hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for 20 straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of J Holland, who scored 11 points along with two steals.
Amelia Academy's loss was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 1-13. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 26.0 points per game. As for Southampton Academy, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-11.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Amelia Academy will square off against Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Amelia Academy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 21 on Friday. As for Southampton Academy, they will head out on the road to challenge Kenston Forest at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Kenston Forest knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past five matchups -- so hopefully Southampton Academy likes a good challenge.
