Basketball Preview: Northern Huskies vs. Shanksville Stonycreek Vikings

Northern is 4-0 against the Vikings since February of 2022, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Monday. The two teams will face off at 7:30 p.m. on February 5th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the pair will really light up the scoreboard.

Northern scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Wednesday. They claimed a resounding 79-37 victory over Hancock on the road. Northern has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six matches by 22 points or more this season.

Meanwhile, things could have been worse for Shanksville Stonycreek, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 73-57 loss to the Rams on Tuesday. Shanksville Stonycreek was down 58-34 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Despite the loss, Shanksville Stonycreek saw an underclassman step up: Braxton Newman dropped a double-double on 20 points and 17 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Newman has scored all season. Grant Boozer was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with seven rebounds and two steals.

Northern is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 8-9 record this season. As for Shanksville Stonycreek, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-8 record this season.

Northern strolled past the Vikings in their previous matchup back in February of 2023 by a score of 68-50. Does Northern have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Vikings turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
