Basketball Game Preview: Athens Christian Preparatory Academy Storm vs. King's Academy Knights

After both having extra time off, the Athens Christian Preparatory Academy Storm and the King's Academy Knights will shake off the cobwebs and challenge one another at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Athens Christian Preparatory Academy will come in still looking for their first win of the season.

Athens Christian Preparatory Academy is headed into the matchup out to prove that what happened against Trinity Christian Academy two weeks ago (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Athens Christian Preparatory Academy was outmatched by Trinity Christian Academy and fell 81-25. While losing is never fun, the Storm can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1646th, while the Warriors are ranked 747th).

The losing side was boosted by Nick Runte, who went 5 for 10 on his way to 12 points and three steals. That was a full 48% of Athens Christian Preparatory Academy's points, marking the fifth time in a row he's posted more than a third of the team's points.

Even though they lost, Athens Christian Preparatory Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in five consecutive games.

Meanwhile, King's Academy suffered their closest defeat since November 25th last Friday. They fell just short of East Texas Homeschool Sports by a score of 46-43. The Knights have struggled against the Chargers recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive lost matchup.

Athens Christian Preparatory Academy will have to contain Everett Hollis as he made an impact in King's Academy's last game. He went 12 of 17 on his way to 27 points in addition to eight rebounds and six blocks. That's the most blocks Hollis has posted since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Nick Atkinson, who had six points and six rebounds.

Athens Christian Preparatory Academy's loss dropped their record down to 0-13. As for King's Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-12.

Athens Christian Preparatory Academy came up short against King's Academy when the teams last played back in November of 2023, falling 60-51. Can Athens Christian Preparatory Academy avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
