Game recap: Roswell High School Football Team wins against Portales

ROSWELL, N.M. - The defense contributed on the scoring end for Roswell (N.M.) on Saturday, totaling 12 points as the Coyotes defeated Portales (N.M.) 48-0.

After taking the lead on a touchdown run by Stephen Lucero in the first quarter, the Coyotes led 28-0 at the half.

Roswell expanded its lead to 34 points entering the fourth quarter. RHS scored once in the quarter on a touchdown pass by Lucero to Hiram McIntyre.

Even though the Coyotes led by 34 points entering the fourth quarter, they poured the points on, scoring 14 in the fourth.

Roswell's standout player in the win was Lucero. The senior quarterback threw three touchdowns and ran for one touchdown. He has now scored 12 touchdowns on the season.

Coming into the game RHS had allowed 29.0 points per game this year.



Last season's game between the teams resulted in a 51-20 win for the Coyotes.

The victory was a step in the right direction for Roswell, which was coming off a 56-14 defeat at the hands of Moriarty in its previous game. The loss comes after Portales defeated Hope Christian 19-13 last week.

Roswell (5-3) will play a 4A District 4 game against Artesia next week, while Portales (2-5) will take on Ruidoso in a non-conference game.
