Softball Game Preview: Westmoreland Eagles vs. Macon County Tigers

The Westmoreland Eagles will square off against the Macon County Tigers at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Westmoreland is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.2 runs per game this season.

Westmoreland made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Portland, but they still couldn't quite topple them. Everything went Westmoreland's way against Portland on Monday as Westmoreland made off with a 13-2 win. The high-scoring effort was just what the Eagles needed considering they were shut out in their previous match.

Ellery Perdue and Mylea Johnson did most of the damage at the plate: Perdue went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI, while Johnson went 2-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those two runs gave Johnson a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Braelyn Walker, who scored a run and stole Two bases. while going 1-for-4.

They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: Westmoreland lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Macon County has relied on a stalwart pitchers averaging 3.71 runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Wednesday. They lost 12-0 to DeKalb County. The contest marked the first time this year in which Macon County was not able to get on the board.

With the defeat, Macon County broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 4-3. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Westmoreland, the victory got them back to even at 2-2.

Westmoreland came out on top in a nail-biter against Macon County in their previous matchup back in March of 2023, sneaking past 4-3. Does Westmoreland have another victory up their sleeve, or will Macon County turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
