The Mayfield Panthers will square off against the Amsterdam Rams at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Mayfield is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.2 runs per game this season.
Mayfield made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Duanesburg, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Panthers fell just short of the Eagles by a score of 4-2 on Friday. Having soared to a lofty 14 runs in the game before, the Panthers couldn't push the score so high this time.
Mayfield saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was October Herting, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI. That RBI marked the first that Herting has brought in this season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Amsterdam). They walked away with an 8-4 win over Gloversville on Friday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Rams.
Carolyn Agresta was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one double. Elianna Tirado was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double.
Amsterdam was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .389. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Amsterdam's victory bumped their record up to 2-8. As for Mayfield, they now have a losing record of 2-3.
