Baseball Game Preview: Bishop Diego Cardinals vs. Foothill Tech Dragons

For the second straight game, Bishop Diego will face off against Foothill Tech. The Cardinals will be playing in front of their home fans against the Dragons at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Bishop Diego is looking for their season's first win.

Bishop Diego managed to slip by Foothill Tech the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Cardinals came up short against the Dragons on Tuesday, falling 18-3.

For Foothill Tech's part, Aiden Gomez and Cooper Casey were major factors no matter where they played. Throwing, Gomez pitched two innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Meanwhile, Casey pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, he posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in February. At bat, Gomez went 2-for-5 with three runs, one double, and one RBI, while Casey went 1-for-2 with two runs and one RBI. Gomez is becoming a predictor of Foothill Tech's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 7-13 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Davin Arth, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs, two RBI, and one double. He has become a key player for Foothill Tech: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 9-12 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacory Smith, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs and two RBI.

Foothill Tech's victory bumped their record up to 11-13. As for Bishop Diego, their loss dropped their record down to 0-11.
