Baseball Recap: Thursday's Defeat Ends Greenfield-Central's Winning Streak

Greenfield-Central dropped their record down to 10-8 on Thursday, which also ended the team's four-game streak of wins. They took a 5-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Mooresville Pioneers. If the Cougars were looking for revenge after losing 7-1 to the Pioneers when the teams met back in May of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Brady Martin was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Greenfield-Central saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Hayden Kidd, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI.

As for Mooresville, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 11-6. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.7 runs over those games.

On Mooresville's side, Liam Delp made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run over seven innings pitched. Delp was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.

In other batting news, Tyler Denny was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs. Brody McGaha was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Greenfield-Central didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 10-0 loss against McCutcheon on the 10th. As for Mooresville, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 5-2 win against Covenant Christian on the 10th.
