Football Game Preview: Morgan Park Mustangs vs. Phillips Wildcats

Morgan Park and Phillips are an even 3-3 against one another since October of 2017, but not for long. The Mustangs will welcome the Wildcats at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few points on average (Morgan Park 14, Phillips 13.5) so any points scored will be well earned.

Last Friday, Morgan Park didn't have too much trouble with Whitney Young as they won 28-12. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Mustangs.

Morgan Park got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Reggie Gray Jr out in front who rushed for 141 yards and one TD while picking up 7.8 yards per carry. Those 141 rushing yards gave Gray Jr a new career-high. Nasir Rankin was another key pass catcher, gaining 94 total yards and a touchdown.

Morgan Park didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Darrell Mattison.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Phillips took on Lincoln Park on Saturday. The Wildcats took a 28-16 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Lions.

Phillips' defeat dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Morgan Park, the win also got them back to even at 2-2.

Everything came up roses for Morgan Park against Phillips when the teams last played back in October of 2024, as the team secured a 48-0 victory. Will the Mustangs repeat their success, or do the Wildcats have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
