Basketball Game Preview: Columbus Cardinals vs. Goliad Tigers

A feisty cat fight will be fought as the Cardinals challenge the Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Columbus' favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season.

Last Tuesday, Columbus didn't have too much trouble with Industrial as they won 69-53.

Grayson Rigdon was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double with 26 points and ten rebounds. His evening made it 14 games in a row in which he has scored at least 19 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Camdon Pitchford, who went 7-for-15 en route to 18 points and eight assists.

Columbus smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 14 offensive rebounds in 11 consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Goliad had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12.7 points) and they went ahead and made it four on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 41-39 win over the Mustangs. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Tigers have posted since November 25, 2024.

Columbus' win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 70.2 points over those games. As for Goliad, they now have a winning record of 15-14.
