Butler was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were six points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 27-21 heartbreaker at the hands of the Providence Panthers. The Bulldogs were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Panthers apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in September of 2024.

Niko Henderson threw for 90 yards on only seven passes. Gabe Wilson was his top target, picking up 62 receiving yards. On the ground, DeMaurion Thomas-Wright rushed for 40 yards.

Providence's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kaleb Vines, who rushed for 121 yards and two touchdowns on only 15 carries, and also picked up 34 receiving yards. The Panthers also got help from Chase Taylor, who showed off his sure hands for 89 receiving yards.

Butler now has a losing record of 2-3. As for Providence, they moved to 2-3 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak.

Butler and Providence will both get their first taste of in-conference action in their upcoming games. The Bulldogs will challenge rival Chambers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Providence is set to take on their familiar foe Rocky River at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
