Basketball Game Preview: Eldon Mustangs vs. Lebanon Yellowjackets

The Eldon Mustangs will take on the Lebanon Yellowjackets at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Eldon will be strutting in after a win while Lebanon will be coming in after a defeat.

Eldon is headed out in good spirits considering the team just ended their winless streak on the road against Fulton on Friday. Eldon walked away with a 45-38 victory over Fulton.

Eldon's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Delaney Mcghay, who posted 11 points and three steals. Mcghay is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last nine games she's played. Kaydin Davis was another key player, putting up 12 points in addition to six rebounds and three steals.

Eldon smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in nine consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, Lebanon ended up a good deal behind Osage on Monday and lost 67-50. The Yellowjackets have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Eldon will need focus on slowing down Mithila Massey, one of several Lebanon players who made an impact when they last played. She had eight points. Another player making a difference was Lilly Bradbury, who scored 12 points.

Lebanon's loss dropped their record down to 5-8. As for Eldon, their victory bumped their record up to 3-9.

Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Eldon has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 31 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Lebanon struggles in that department as they've been averaging 26.9 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.

Eldon came up short against Lebanon in their previous matchup back in December of 2024, falling 63-53. Can Eldon avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
