Softball Recap: Haddam-Killingworth Falls Short of Old Lyme in the Playoffs

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Haddam-Killingworth can now relate to. They fell just short of the Old Lyme Wildcats by a score of 4-2 on Saturday. The Cougars were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Wildcats earlier this season, when they won 10-3.

Emma Giaccone spent all seven innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four runs (all of which were unearned) on four hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Haddam-Killingworth saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Hannah Reilly, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Haddam-Killingworth's defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 14-4. As for Old Lyme, they now have a winning record of 10-9.

Haddam-Killingworth does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Old Lyme, they will venture away from home to square off against Hale Ray at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Wildcats' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Noises have averaged an impressive 9.5 runs per game this season.
