Preview: Charleston Catholic Irish vs. Buffalo Bison
Charleston Catholic is 10-0 against Buffalo since January of 2018, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Charleston Catholic Irish are on the road again and play against the Buffalo Bison at 7:00 p.m. on December 19th. Hopefully Charleston Catholic focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 21 last Saturday.
Last Saturday, Charleston Catholic escaped with a win against Bridgeport by the margin of a single free throw, 44-43. The victory was just what Charleston Catholic needed coming off of a 68-29 loss in their prior match.
Charleston Catholic found their leader in underclassman Mary Rushworth, who scored 25 points along with five rebounds and four steals. The game was Rushworth's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Layla Carter, who scored nine points along with six rebounds.
Meanwhile, Buffalo waltzed into their game Saturday with three straight wins but they left with four. They walked away with a 32-21 victory over Poca. Despite the victory, that was the fewest points Buffalo has scored all year.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Buffalo to victory, but perhaps none more so than Anna Boggess, who scored seven points along with nine rebounds. Another player making a difference was Lauren White, who scored eight points along with five rebounds.
Charleston Catholic now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Buffalo, their win bumped their record up to 4-1.
Tuesday's contest is shaping up to be a scrappy game: Charleston Catholic have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 25.7 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Buffalo, though, as they've been averaging only 22.4 rebounds per game. Given Charleston Catholic's sizeable advantage in that area, Buffalo will need to find a way to close that gap.
Charleston Catholic took their victory against Buffalo in their previous matchup back in February by a conclusive 56-32. With Charleston Catholic ahead 36-10 at the half, the match was all but over already.
